Portis Clinical Trials is a UK clinical operations company that runs trial sites outside the hospital setting, with a focus on Phase III studies for pharmaceutical sponsors.
Our sites are based in primary care. They combine access to large registered patient populations with dedicated research teams, including research nurses, clinical trials pharmacists and principal investigators, supported by external laboratory partners. We identify, recruit and manage eligible patients directly from these populations, and our teams and infrastructure deliver complex, multi-year trials to the standards commercial sponsors expect.
Most clinical trials are run from hospitals, so many patients are never offered the chance to take part. This is especially true for people whose care is managed by their GP, those who live far from a research hospital, and those who find hospital visits difficult.
Portis runs trials in primary care, where patients already receive most of their care. Patients are approached by a practice they know, and their study visits take place locally. This gives more patients the opportunity to take part in research and helps trial populations better reflect the people who will use new treatments.
Portis manages the full site process, including feasibility, regulatory approvals, contracting, patient identification and visit delivery. Our sites can support hybrid trial designs, combining in-person visits close to patients’ homes with remote elements where the trial design allows.
We are building a group of sites working to the same standard processes, so that sponsors can place a substantial part of their UK recruitment with a single partner. Our aim is to give sponsors confidence that recruitment targets will be met on time.
